Hearing Impairment Provision
We believe that all pupils who are deaf can learn and achieve.
We offer a pupil – centred approach, based on their preferred method of communication and we believe we offer excellent provision for hearing impaired students.
Some pupils who are deaf are in other Departments within school. Which class / Department a deaf pupil goes into is determined by where their needs (including a peer group) will be best met. Any deaf issues are referred to the Hearing Impairment Department and Deaf Awareness training is delivered to all classroom based staff and Deaf Awareness Assemblies are delivered to the school.
Deaf Awareness training has also been delivered to the Domestic Staff.
Teaching staff are all fully qualified and very experienced teachers of the deaf who can use a variety of communication methods
Special Support Assistants are attached to each class plus communicators and a speech and language therapist who specialises in working with deaf pupils.
Access to a multi-disciplinary team of professionals
