West Thames College offers effective support for all levels of hearing loss, from minimal to profound.
Students with hearing impairments are assigned a Communication Support Worker for all classes. They have access to note takers, one to one teaching support by deaf aware staff and British Sign Language. The college also provides a range of assistive technology from portable loop systems through to radio aids and we routinely provide adapted materials such as sub titled DVDs.
Our teaching staff are given help supporting students with hearing impairments including facilitating lip reading and ensuring classrooms are hearing impairment friendly.
