Life and Deaf |
|
Life & Deaf began in 2006 as a Speech and Language Therapy project that aimed to develop deaf children’s self-esteem and communication in signed, spoken and written languages through the medium of poetry.
In Speech and Language Therapy sessions, the children explored their feelings about their Deaf identity. They created mind-maps from brainstorms, explored poetry about identity in different cultures, developed their vocabulary of emotions and wrote their own unique poetry.
The Life & Deaf projects use poetry and the arts to help deaf children explore their identities and develop communication skills and emotional literacy; our overall aim is to improve the mental health of future generations of deaf people.
We have spent the last nine years working with deaf children though poetry and the arts to help them to explore their experiences and feelings within a secure environment.
