Eggbuckland Vale Primary School |
|
Eggbuckland Vale provides inclusive education for deaf / hearing impaired children from nursery age to Year 6. All the hearing impaired children are placed in a mainstream class where they are suitably supported.
All school staff receive training in meeting the needs of deaf children including, the use of equipment that improves the listening environment for these children and an introduction to sign language..
The support centre is staffed by teachers of the deaf and a team of specialist support staff all of whom are trained in supporting language development. A specialist speech and language therapist works closely with our team. The majority of the children supported by our centre develop good listening and spoken language skills; however we have a rich culture of sign and are able to work well with children who have sign as their first language.
Language development and emotional wellbeing are the keys to academic and social success and are therefore our key priorities. We are able to support deaf children with additional needs. Children spend varying amounts of time in the Support Centre for specialist teaching.
