An important part of our school is our Hearing Support Centre (HSC). This is an enhanced provision, St. Margarets Academy being the designated primary school in Torbay for pupils with hearing impairment. We cater for children with moderate to profound hearing loss.
Children who attend the HSC are supported by a qualified and experienced specialist team comprising of a Teacher of the Deaf and three Specialist Teaching Assistants who are all qualified in deaf education.
The children are fully included in all aspects of school life, this is whole school approach. All mainstream staff have experience of working with children who have hearing impairment. The children benefit from being with other hearing impaired children whilst working and playing alongside their hearing peers.
